Bangladesh has an eminent threat of spreading superbugs at an epidemic level. The driving factor for this problem is to develop an antibiotic resistant in the human body, which is triggered by a long term unauthorized use of Antibiotics by the mass population.
This problem can be solved by introducing an electronic prescription system, where the doctors can keep the medical records and also can control the drug uses for their patients. Our system will also use an AI program to identify the possible conflicts between multiple drugs substance for the patient and will create an alert to its doctor’s office.
This solution will change the overall health system of the demographic. This will prevent unauthorized uses of antibiotics and other critical medicines. This will help to keep medical records for future treatment and will also help to build a great ecosystem for patients care.
The affected population is at an enormous level. The problem starts with the healthcare professionals and patients itself where a doctor is prescribing over the limit antibiotics due to the lack of previous records and sometimes the patient is buying an antibiotic from their local pharmacies without doctor’s prescription. The electronic prescription records will promote healthcare professionals to keep track of the patient’s medical history before providing the prescription for required doses of drugs. This will also help from providing a prescription of antibiotics to control substantial abuse of using unauthorized pain medication that is known as opioids.
There are many articles have been published to create awareness for this issue. There is one published by a renowned local daily newspaper, written by a respected professor, Samir K Saha, Ph.D, Professor & Head,
Department of Microbiology, Bangladesh Institute of Child Health, about
“Overuse of antibiotics increases the risk of bacterial resistance” (
“https://www.thedailystar.net/opinion/interviews/news/overuse-antibiotics-increases-the-risk-bacterial-resistance-1725826”)
There is another one study conducted by the US Public Health on “Self medicated antibiotics in Bangladesh: a cross-sectional health survey conducted in the Rajshahi City” ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/p... )
The application will be accessible to all healthcare providers and mass people who have a smartphone. We will work closely with the healthcare provider like individual doctors, government hospitals and private clinics to introduce our system.
Our solution will help to minimize the growing epidemic in the healthcare system by preventing the unauthorized and abusive level of Antibiotics for mass patients. Not only that our system will help to organize the overall patient care for our health sector. This solution can have a national database to control drug usage and can be governed by the Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health. This system will also help to minimize Government expenditure and reduce the dispute of providing medical supports to the rural hospitals throughout the country.
We will develop a centralized software with a mobile application available to our healthcare provider and patients. The doctors will issue a prescription and keep records of their patient medical history in the centralized database using their mobile App. The doctor can give a printout of the prescription if any user does not own a smart device. Other hands the patients having a smartphone can access the issued prescription and can get drugs from a local pharmacy.
Our system will use machine learning to help to determine the required medicines for the patients based on their symptoms which will be a value-added service to the doctors and also use an AI program to determine the possible conflicts of medicines for the patients based on their treatment plan which will substitute a need for a physical pharmacist.
We will use Python for our backend and React Native for a cross-platform mobile application. We will use MySQL for maintaining our databases.

We are still using handwritten paper-based prescriptions given by our doctors. Sometimes the handwriting so poor that only an expert pharmacy store clerk can read it guess it. The main problem arises when the patient brings an old expired prescription to get medicine and skipping their important doctor's visit. This practice of misusing and reusing and sometimes just taking the medicine, in this case, an important antibiotic making them antibiotic-resistant without their knowledge.
Our solution consists of three parts 1) an electronic prescription generator 2) an automatic treatment plan advisor based on key analysis and 3) an AI-based initial drug screening service will be done by a pharmacist to prevent those patients to consume multiple conflicting drugs simultaneously.
We don't have a similar all 3 services available in a single software product in a market. That's why our solution is so innovative and demanding which can help our large number of poor population in Bangladesh.

Our solution will gradually impact the mass people when they start visiting our covered practitioners/doctors and hospital. This will introduce a new practice in the medical society. The doctors will also be benefited to provide better care for their patients. Soon this can be introduced as a guideline to regulate the outburst drug consumption by the mass people in the nation.

We have not released the software yet.
Our first target is to introduce it with our private doctors and private hospital practitioners along with a joint collaboration with a prominent pharmaceutical company.
Our service will cover 5 major metropolitan cities in our first phase. We are targeting to introduce our service with at least 5 thousand doctors and 50 private hospitals in the first year. This could cover approximate 5 million people in one year.
We have a target to cover an additional 59 districts in the next 5 years and possibly cover all private hospitals. We also have a plan to introduce our Health Ministry so that we can cover all government hospitals as well. This service could cover approximately 50-60 million people in the next 5 years.
Our immediate goal is to release the software as a beta version within the next 6-8 months with an e-prescription service. We want to release our official version with a year. We will then start marketing our products to the doctor's office and private hospitals.
We will keep working on other 2 two services in parallel. With in the following years we would like to release all 3 services to help doctors and patient care.
Within the next 5 years, we have a plan to add a few more value-added service into our application.
We have a very small team right now. We don't see ourselves to complete the core e-prescription feature within next year due to lack of technical and financial resources. Even after releasing a beta version we would require a marketing team to introduce our products to the doctor's office. We will surely face technical and financial barriers to meet our requirements in the next year.
We would be needed at least 50-60 employees to meet our technical, marketing and administrative goals to reach about 50-60 million people to use our services and receive a benefit from it. To reach that goal we will need lots of investments in next 5 years.
We will require more investments either from personal sources or taking seed money or bank loans. We already started investing to open a new and big office in Khulna City. We are planning to accommodate at least 20-30 employees there by the end of this year. We will also seek private and bank loans to meet our financial requirements in the next 5 years.
We have a very strong technical team. We have a technical architect who completed his MSc from a reputed university in the USA. He will drive the entire technical team. We have a business analyst who completed his MBA from a reputed university in Bangladesh. If we get adequate investment then we would be able to achieve our goals in the next 5 years to server more than 50 million people.
