Problem:
1.The urban area of Bangladesh generates approximately 16,015tons of waste per day, which adds up to over 5.84million tons annually. It is projected that this amount will grow up to 47,000tons/day and close to 17.16 million tons per year by 2025.Existing infrastructure for waste management showed that waste collection efficiency in different urban areas with an average of 55%. 2. Acetic acid is a key chemical for RMG sector, But in Bangladesh there is no manufacturing company. All are imported from Chaina or other country, that's why our RMG sector faces difficulty.
3.For Using chemical fertilizer in our soil, Organic content is decreased day by day, That's why fertilizer requirement per hectre is increasing day by day.
Solution:
We have isolated an yeast , that convert the Organic waste to acetic acid and organic fertilizer.
If we can implement our project , we will be able to utilize the hazardous waste to a economical product.
The urban area of Bangladesh generates approximately 16,015tons of waste per day. It is projected that this amount will grow up to 47,000tons/day by 2025. About 78%solid waste is coming from residential sector and 20%from commercial sector, 1%from the institutional sector and rest from other sectors.Existing infrastructure for waste management showed that waste collection efficiency in different urban areas varies from 37%to77%with an average of 55%. Huge amount of uncollected waste, a high proportion of which is organic, makes nuisance and pollutes the local environment rapidly. Solid waste disposal poses a greater problem because it leads to land pollution if openly dumped, water pollution if dumped in low lands and air pollution if burnt.
Acetic acid is a key chemical for RMG sector, Yearly consumption of acetic acid in Bangladesh is 90ktons, and It is projected that this amount will grow up to 130ktons/year.But in Bangladesh there is no manufacturing company in Bangladesh. All are imported from Chaina or other country, that's why our RMG sector faces difficulty.
For Using chemical fertilizer in our soil, Organic content is decreased day by day.In 1992-93 total fertilizer consumption was 2300000tons, but today this value is upto 7100000tons.
This is a global problem. About 100 million of urban people are affected by this problem. Two case studies(Agargaon and TT Para) are given below to illustrate the problems of the poor, due to garbage in the city:
• People are Allergic to mosquito bites and most of the time the children are ill. • Flies are abundant due to the nearby garbage. • They suffer from odur and excess of stagnant water. • Their eyes become red when they go out, under the sun. • They also experience aches in their eyes.
In recent year, acetic acid price is raised rapidly that's why dyeing industry are affected. There manufacturing cost have increased.
Fertilizer requirement in our country land is increasing day by day for using chemical fertilizer that's why their production cost also increased, and Farmers are being affected.
So if we can implement our project we will be able to minimize these problem.
Our product is Acetic acid & Organic fertilizer.
Process & Technology:
We have isolated an yeast that convert the food waste to acetic acid and residue (spent wash) by fermentation process. This will take 7 days long. After in liquid -liquid extraction and crystallization process it produce glacial acetic acid(GAA), In laboratory, manufacturing cost is 67taka/kg. But we hopeful in industrial level it will be 53 to 57 taka /kg GAA.
Then the residue is treated by a microbe. which increase the nitrogen content of our fertilizer by nitrogen fixation process. After 21 days it become a brown color granully.
Per 1 kg of organic waste produce 0.236 kg of acetic acid and 415gm of organic fertilizer.

At present the main utilization process of organic waste is composting for producing organic fertilizer. But we create a new dimension in waste utilization. It produce valuable acetic acid as well as organic fertilizer.
We also invent a new and renewable source of acetic acid production.At present acetic acid is produced from petroleum. The demand of acetic acid is increased day by day, It is projected that in 2025 acetic acid consumption will increase 10%. so for the limitation of petroleum , we have to depend on renewable source of acetic acid production.
At present existing organic fertilizer contains poor amount of nitrogen, that's why farmer are reluctant to use organic fertilizers. But for treating with a different microbes it increase our fertilizer nitrogen content.
So , my project is doing 4 in 1.
It saves environment from pollution,
Produce acetic acid at reasonable price.
produce good quality & nitrogen content fertilizer.
It saves the cost of waste management in urban area.
We not only think but also believe that our solution will minimize the problem that we have addressed earlier.
The main reason of that problem is waste, and we use that waste. And we produce two demandable product at low cost.
We have surveyed that, in Rajshahi city daily 206 ton waste is produced,Initially If we can able to utilize 7 ton waste per day , we will be able to produce 1.7tons of acetic acid and 3 tons of fertilizer. and minimize 7% of hazardous effect. After 5 or 6 years if we can utilize lion parts of waste that will minimize the lion parts of hazardous effect.

Our project is now in prototype. at present we are not serving yet. we run it only in our laboratory as a research based.
We hopeful ,Next year we will go to commercially. at first we will serve only Rajshahi city, We will serve 5 medium dyeing firm and around 1000 farmers.
After five years we will serve all big city in our country. we will grab most large dyeing firm and around 40% of farmer.
In next year we will make a infrastructure of 45ton acetic acid production capacity.And we will develop our process for minimizing production cost.
Within 5 years we will enlarge our capacity. we will make a production house in Dhaka, Chittagong , & Khulna. Our capacity will be 17,000 tons of waste utilization per day.
After 7 years, we will establish a ethyl acetate monomer producing firm. And make a microbes for our agriculture land instead of pesticides. Because pesticide is harmful for our health.
Our main goal to make a primary manufacturing company around the world.
The main Barrier to accomplish our goal is financial problem, For making a small infrastructure, we need $2.3 million.
Another Barrier is marketing. Since we introduce a product from new source , and our capacity is small so we can't ensure any company initially. It will be slight difficult to convince. but we believe we will overcome these problem.
Since it is a new process, without patent register , we can't go commercially. But it will take some time to optimize our process industrially and in processing of patent register.we hope within middle of the next year we will be able to go commercially by doing all process completely.
Recently we have funded $.0125million by our government at Student to start up Competition.Now we are trying to fund rises. If we get the support from Tiger Challenge it will be easier to overcome this problem.
From now , we are contacting with different dyeing firm, we hopeful before go to commercially we will convince them.
within next November we will apply for patent register.
