AfyaChats Mobile App
AfyaChats is an android app that enables the user to detect early signs of diseases by allowing them to ask questions such as the meaning of symptoms that they experience and get real-time and instant replies that contain answers for the user's queries. We use AI technology through a chatbot interface that enables the user to send texts with questions and get instant replies that contain answers to health questions asked by the user. Thus reduces the occurrence of preventable deaths by enabling them to understand the signs of diseases hence get medical treatment earlier before the situation becomes complicated. Also to ensure that credibility of the information, we will partner with the ministry of health to develop useful content that will enlighten people about different issues concerning healthcare.
For many years Tanzania being a developing country has faced a significant increase in the high rate of occurrence of preventable deaths which have brought government and healthcare attentions towards determining the root cause of the problem. Unfortunately, all of their answers were based on increasing healthcare accessibility which tends to take a long haul of time. Despite these efforts put in place, there is still an open truth that yet to be addressed to fill the gap between patients with or without the access to healthcare services mainly due to the distance from the available healthcare services. Unfortunately, most of Tanzanians rely on the use of search engines to ask health-related questions concerning different topics such as HIV/AIDS, pregnancy and sexual health. Their attempts of using the likes of Google failed due to the language barrier, lack of a tool to provide information in a native language from a trusted source and also that complies with the regulations set by the Ministry of Health is caused by a lack of adequate and valid health information that would educate people about different medical issues and during emergencies.
Tanzania has about 23 million active internet users, most of them being youths who are actively engaged in social medias and also use the internet to ask questions about different health conditions.
We have developed an android app that can answer user questions in the real-time through a chat-bot interface that allows the user to send questions about different health matters and the user receives instant replies from our bot that inform them about their health status and giving them advice on how to curb the situation. Our App integrates the use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning concepts that learns the user needs and deploy instant answers using a user-friendly interface. AfyaChats App enhances effective user experience through breaking the language barrier by the use of Swahili language to provide health services, become user-friendly and more straightforward to Swahili speakers users to get information at their first language compared to most sources of information that use the English Language such as Google.

Unlike most healthcare apps which aim at advertising traditional medicines basing on incredible and uncertified information which is ineffective especially during emergencies. AfyaChats puts the user at the center of its design process by ensuring the information that we provide is credible and certified by the Ministry of Health in order to protect them and help them stay healthy all the time. Also, our technology helps the user to detect diseases by answering questions such as meaning of symptoms and going forward we connect the user with doctors, hospitals and pharmacies so as to allow the user to get medical help from them. In addition to that, during emergencies our users can call ambulances and uber taxis which will take them to the nearest hospitals for medical help.

Our content will be certified by the ministry of health hence ensuring that they are relevant and useful to the user, unlike most apps which do not abide to healthcare regulations. Also, we will include many features which have not been implemented by other apps like medical records database that would be used for storing consultation information for patients.

Upon completion of the development, AfyaChats will enable people to get real-time health information and medical help during emergency and sickness using the app hence improving their health status, save lives and educate them concerning different health matters thus reducing transmission of some diseases and reduce occurence of preventable deaths. Also, it is expected to bring employment to about 5 people who will be working either full-time or part time with us hence helping them to earn income to pay tax and support other people depending on them.
We will partner with the ministry of health for accreditation of our content in the next two months. We are expecting to upload the app in June after finishing all the registration and regulatory procedures such as incorporation and patent registration.
