Timeless
Engaging Alzheimer’s patients through AI-based facial recognition
Solution Summary
The most prevalent problems caused by Alzheimer’s are memory loss, confusion, and difficulty remembering loved ones. Timeless, a unique mobile app, eases these difficulties and empowers Alzheimer’s patients to remember events and stay connected with loved ones.
Powered by artificial intelligence-based facial recognition technology, the app has an “identify” function that recognizes friends and loved ones, helping patients remember names and relationships. Timeless also connects caregivers with family members to inform a patient’s daily schedule and add photos.

Alzheimer’s Disease is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that affects more than 44 million people worldwide. The most prevalent problems caused by Alzheimer’s are memory loss, confusion, and difficulty remembering loved ones as the disease progresses.
Yet despite these problems caused by the disease, there are very few tools that patients and caregivers can use to make living with Alzheimer’s disease or caring for an Alzheimer’s patient easier.
Timeless comprehensively solves the issues faced by Alzheimer’s patients in their day-to-day lives, and helps them cope with the effects of the illness in a more effective way.
Timeless’ goal is to help Alzheimer’s patients live better daily lives.
Alzheimer’s Disease affects 44 million people worldwide. According to research, Alzheimer’s patients suffer from forgetting events and familiar tasks, and difficulty remembering and recognizing people.
My Grandmother has Alzheimer’s. I have first-hand experience and a unique understanding of the impacts on our family. Research shows that using a mobile device can help prevent the onset of cognitive impairment or slow the progression of the illness.
Timeless applies these concepts, combined with artificial intelligence, to create a comprehensive solution that helps Alzheimer’s patients cope with the illness.

There are 3 target outcomes of Timeless.
50,000 patient circles (consisting of a patient, a caregiver, and loved ones) adopt Timeless into their daily lives within 3 years of release. This is 1% of the 5 million Americans who have Alzheimer’s, our initial target market.
Raise awareness about the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease on patients and families, and ways that they can cope with the illness
Remove stigma that the elderly are not capable of using technology
The App Store can provide download statistics for Timeless.
The back-end database that Timeless uses, Google Firebase, provides analytics on the usage of Timeless, such as how many active users Timeless has and features users spend the most time on. - 50,000 patient circles (consisting of a patient, a caregiver, and loved ones) adopt Timeless into their daily lives within 3 years of release.
More discussion about Alzheimer’s Disease on social media, more participation in awareness events such as marathons run by the Alzheimer’s Association, and more of these events run by people outside of the Alzheimer’s community. - Raise awareness about the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease on patients and families, and ways that they can cope with the illness.
As more patients adopt Timeless, people will realize that the elderly are capable of using technology and leveraging it to improve their daily lives, and more apps targeted towards various needs of the elderly will be developed. - Remove stigma that the elderly are not capable of using technology

Timeless is unique because it’s a first-of-its-kind app directly targeted to Alzheimer’s patients and caregivers. Extensive market research shows that none of the Alzheimer’s-related apps on the market are targeted for the patients themselves. These apps are for caregivers seeking help or general information about the illness.
Timeless is uniquely designed based on the needs of Alzheimer’s patients. It is inspired by the founder’s personal experience with her grandmother who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. It also leverages the power of artificial intelligence and mobile technology to help Alzheimer’s patients lead a productive daily life, which has never been done before.
Timeless is a one-of-a-kind app -- the first in the Alzheimer’s field designed for patients. Timeless was created with the special needs of the elderly and Alzheimer’s community in mind, keeping to 3 design principles: simplicity, minimal transitions, and clarity. Every aspect of Timeless from start to finish contributes to these design principles. Touch ID authentication is used as a simpler alternative to long passwords. The screen is kept as simple as possible with minimal UI elements. Graphical representations and color contrast level AAA-compliant UI elements are used so that content and interactions are clear to the patient.
Timeless will be available on the Apple App Store for patients, caregivers and loved ones to download.

I am the sole developer of Timeless. The costs involved in the development such as back-end services and design tools is funded by:
Michael Perelstein Memorial Discover Your Passion Scholarship Fund - $3,500
CE Week 10Under20 - $1,000
The facial recognition platform is sponsored by Kairos, which created the human analytics platform Timeless leverages. Kairos has given me a enterprise version of their service for free to support Timeless.
Liliia Mandrino, a UI/UX designer based in Texas, has helped me with Timeless’ design as her passion project.
After Timeless is released, the app will be available with a monthly subscription fee of $3 in order to sustain the application’s maintenance and future development costs. The business model is to generate revenue from those who can afford to pay in order to subsidize those who cannot. The goal is to make the app accessible to everyone who needs it.
There are 3 factors limiting the ability of Timeless to succeed:
Awareness - The goal is for Timeless to reach as many Alzheimer’s patients as possible. If there is a lack of awareness, Timeless would not have successfully helped the Alzheimer’s community.
Adoption - Timeless’ full potential is reached when the app is fully adopted into patients’ daily lives. If not, patients will not be able to fully benefit and be as effective as it can be.
Stereotypes - A common assumption is the elderly can’t use technology. If patients and their loved ones believe this, they won’t consider adopting Timeless.

I am applying to Solve because I want to grow my network in the field of digital health, especially in the neuroscience field. The key to expanding Timeless and raising awareness in the Alzheimer's community is making connections with doctors, caregivers, field experts, and solution developers. I hope to connect with more sources of expertise who can give me feedback and help me improve Timeless. All these resources and connections will help me take Timeless from development to success.
