The Amgen Prize
How can nonprofits use innovation to improve the journey for patients with rare diseases, from diagnosis to treatment and holistic care?
Since 2021, Solve has worked with Horizon Therapeutics (now Amgen) to find and fund effective solutions that improve the lives of and outcomes for rare disease patients globally, as well as lessen the environmental footprint of the rare disease industry itself.
Each year, Solve collaborates with Amgen staff to design a challenge tailored to their impact goals, leads the promotion of the challenge, and alongside industry experts, evaluates and selects finalists. Amgen and Solve host a pitch event and present the Amgen Prize award at the Concordia Summit during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Highlights include:
From 2021-2024, the Challenge has received 470 applications from 73 countries
In 2024, finalist solutions included a tool for assessment of patients with rare disease ataxia, a marketplace to ensure accessibility of drug development resources, and more.
Winner Factor H La Luz Caregivers Programme from Venezuela was awarded $150,000 to advance their solution for caregivers of Huntington’s Disease patients.
